Research & Reports
United Way of York Region invests in research to build evidence-based strategies to change community conditions. By sharing our ideas and findings, we work to raise the understanding of the diverse civic, social and economic fabric of our region, and how we can affect real, lasting change in areas of our community where it’s needed most.
…if addressed
In 2008, we released if addressed a report which kicked off a year-long dialogue across our nine municipalities on the defining issue of our remarkable region: the intersection of pace of growth, the changing face of growth, and the places where said growth is occurring.
…addressing our strengths
In 2009, after more extensive research, we released …addressing OUR STRENGTHS, a report which confirms that we are a region of communities within communities and that our quality of life moving forward is grounded in our ability to invest in our greatest resources: helping kids be all they can be, moving people from poverty to possibility and creating strong, healthy neighbourhoods.
A Profile of York Region’s Low Income Population
The Community Reference Group (CRG), a body which works in partnership with various other community organizations, produces and shares important data that highlights key trends in the region. For years, United Way of York Region has Co-Chaired this community collaboration in partnership with Tony Van Bynen, Mayor of Newmarket. In 2011, the CRG released A Profile of York Region’s Low Income Population, which focuses on social and economic risk factors related to an individual’s low income status. All of this research is critical to building evidence-based strategies for getting at the root causes of our region’s challenges and will guide our efforts to continue targeting priority areas that must be addressed.
